DULUTH, Minn. - A Minnesota man has pleaded guilty to driving his motorized La-Z-Boy chair while drunk. A criminal complaint says 62-year-old Dennis LeRoy Anderson told police he left a bar in the northern Minnesota town of Proctor on his chair after drinking eight or nine beers.
Prosecutors say Anderson's blood alcohol content was 0.29, more than three times the legal limit, when he crashed into a parked vehicle in August 2008. He was not seriously injured.
Police said the chair was powered by a converted lawnmower and had a stereo and cup holders.
Sixth Judicial District Judge Heather Sweetland stayed 180 days of jail time Monday and ordered two years of probation for Anderson. His attorney, David Keegan, did not immediately return a call for comment.

  1. This story's title definitely caught my attention, as to it's pure ridiculousness. Firstly, I am confused as to why anyone would want to motorize a chair that belongs in a home ? However, due to the fact that the man not only had a blood alcohol reading, which was more than three times the legal limit, but also due in part that he caused damage to another person's property. If it were up to me I would not only prosecute him on the intoxication charges and damage, but also fine him for his motorized chair. This chair would not pose a threat if it were being used in his own yard, or a confined area, but that was not the case.

  2. I agree with Erin, this guy should be charged just as an intoxicated person driving a car would be charged, and with driving a motorized chair that should be used inside. Seems as though this person took advantage of this and may have thought since it is not an actual car he could not be charged.
