Google Board Member Resigns Amid FTC Probe

A member of Google's Board of Directors has stepped down after the Federal Trade Commission began a probe looking into his membership on both Google and Apple's board of directors. Arthur Levinson, the chairman of Roche Holding AG's Genentech, resigned from his post on Google's BOD. Two months ago, Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt, left Apple's Board of Directors after a similar probe. The FTC became concerned by the overlapping board memberships over the last year because during this period the two companies have begun to more actively compete in areas such as operating systems and mobile phone software.

It is an interesting question as to whether either company has been hurt by the sharing of directors.
