Environmental Impact

The Environmental Protection Agency has made strides in improving how pollution intrudes on our personal well being but it seems one side sometimes suffers in favor of improvements elsewhere. In Western Pennsylvania, a coal burning power plant was following federal regulations meant to control air pollution only to then use waste water run off to disperse the chemicals and waste produced by their operation into the Monongahela River. It is within the current law but the EPA is looking into the possibility of revamping regulations to include more stringent controls on the water pollution created when keeping the hazards out of the air.

It is a great example of how businesses will be expected to adapt to a more demanding public when it comes to the environment we all share. We no longer idly accept pollution as just part of living near a power plant or even a manufacturing facility. Governmental agencies such as the EPA are a big part of helping achieve those higher standards by working with the businesses to help create realistic laws that can be carried out while still keeping businesses profitable.

Cleansing the Air at the Expense of Waterways
