Sotomayor's Opinions in Business Cases

This article is about Judge Sonya Sotomayor's career decisions on business decisions in ten years on the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. her decisions were very unpredictable and did not put in either the pro or anti business camp catagory. In a 2006 case in which she allowed class-action lawsuits against Merrill Lynch which she suggested to some business lawyers that she was amenable to lawsuits against big corporations. But in a 2006 securities case against the same company, she voted with the majority in refusing to allow a class to be formed. It has been said though that there is no single factor that businesses look for in a jurist even though financial businesses would like to see fewer lawsuits and a tendency to let lawsuits go through is a worrying sign to a pro-business interests.
