A man kills two young girls, and by making a plea deal, he gets to keep his life.
Two girls who hadn't even begun to live their lives are now dead because of him, therefore I think he should receive the death penalty. If you've read any my previous posts I think you've probably noticed that I feel overall that our country needs harsher punishments for violent crimes.. in all honesty I don't feel that murderers/rapists/violent repeat offenders should be offer any kind of "deals".

I am going to agree with you that this man deserves the death penalty...but I have read many articles that state that the family members of these victims wanted this to be over and done with so that they (and the two teenage girls) can be at peace. Most of us (fortunately) will never feel the pain that these individuals have had to endure and we should respect their decisions for allowing this monster to think about the pain and agony he created. I hope that they found some sort of closure.
ReplyDeletefrom your mouth to the Prosecutors ears. Unfortunately even prison sentences arent keeping these poor excuses for DNA behind bars. Recently Ft Lauderdale residents found a man who had been convicted of kidnapping and raping and killing a twelve year old in Illinois living "homeless" and unsupervised in one of our parks. We need to fight for NO-Gain time, early release that allow these freaks back out to feed off our young and vulnerable. Do you know where our child killer is now? He is sitting in an apartment that we the citizens pay for with an ankle monitor that may or may not work being monitored by state employees who may or may not be watching him. Life in Prison means nothing. Which tells me the "system" cares nothing for Justice.
ReplyDeleteThis situation like many has you can see should just go under the saying an eye for an eye. I think if someone kills someone and gets caught why let them live for free off our tax money in jail and get three meals a day and not have to work. It would not only cost less and decrease the number of people in crowded jails but gives justice to people who lost someone. Why let someone who deliberately killed 2 people have the opportunity to continue living.
ReplyDeleteOne of the comments suggested that it's cheaper to execute a criminal found guilty of a serious crime than to imprison the criminal. While I think the key consideration should be to ensure that justice is served, rather than the issue of cost, for the purposes of accuracy, it is worth noting that it is far less expensive to incarcerate someone for life than to seek the death penalty. This has been found to be true in many studies as described in this link:

It makes sense to me that this should be the case; it is exceedingly important (and therefore expensive) to ensure that no miscarriage of justice has taken place against the convicted when society has the power to impose such a serious and irreversible penalty as death.
