An interesting law has been passed in Indiana. Starting July 1st this year, employees in Indiana may now bring loaded firearms to work as long as they stay locked in the trunk or glove box. Of course some people are wary of this law, considering how workplace violence is on the rise. Homicide is one of the four leading causes of death in the workplace, and the number one cause of death for women in the workplace.

The Second Amendment in our U.S. Constitution protects our right to keep and bear arms and this is allowing the people in Indiana to do so. Even though it is within our Constitution to keep/bear arms, I agree that this law is probably going to increase the number of homicides in the workplace. Especially with the global economic situation that we are currently living through, people are tense and weary in the workplace. Also, workers tend to be more overworked during this recession as employers most likely do not have the funds to hire and keep new employees. So with this law and the tense economic situation that we're in right now, the people of Indiana may want to keep their 'eyes open' while they're at work.
ReplyDeleteToo many people are hot tempered to be carrying guns into a stressed-filled environment such as work. Just 2 years ago at a company near my house a laid-off worker went on a shooting spree killing 3 people... it's bad enough that we have to worry about situations like that, I can't imagine worrying about angry co-workers carrying around loaded weapons...
ReplyDeleteIf there's already an amendment for the right to keep and bear arms, what is the purpose of this law in Indiana? In my opinion, this has disaster written all over it and just isn't necessary. Also, if someone had intentions of bringing a gun to work, would this law really stop them from using it in the workplace?!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Lauren, it is already protected under the second ammendment; moreover, it is a freedom barred only to federal action, not extending to state, or private restraints.
ReplyDeleteYou can bring a gun to church if you want(how would people know)? What if a crazy ex or current employee came into your work fully armed and ready to take some people out; would you want the chance to defend yourself and your coworkers?
I know I spelled Amendment wrong.
