I found this article relevant for all of us being that many students use Amazon for their school books. Apparently Amazon deleted books, notes, and resources purchased by students and now to months after being sued for removing electronic books from Kindle owners' devices without their knowledge, Amazon has agreed to a settlement f $150,000 to settle the class-action suit. The article called my attention because I normally buy books from Amazon, and until today I have not had any trouble at all. However, I'm glad that they are going to refund the damages that the company caused to people. And they are not going to delete any information more from the users because it's going to be regulated.
ReplyDeleteI take for granted that the songs and videos I purchase from iTunes are mine forever but I'm going to go back and re-read the terms more carefully after seeing this. I'm glad it was proven that they didn't have the right to delete the material. It will force me to be more careful when reading the service agreements for online data purchases.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read this story I was completely appalled. Especially, considering any books I buy online are through Amazon. So, hearing that they took advantage of people who buy their products like that really makes me reconsider any future purchases i might possibly make through their company. I have always been more than satisfied with their service, however this act of dishonesty is completely unacceptable in my mind.
ReplyDeleteI dont understand why Amazon would think this was ok. Regardless to whether you purchase an item virtually or not is shall remain yours forever. They should have made this clear. This really weighs heavily on their credibility....
